Group unveils plans for Satan statue at Okla. Capitol – CBS News.

I couldn’t get over this one…I really can’t wait to “sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation”- can you?  Since when is the devil “the ultimate icon for the responsible pursuit of happiness?” Does the temple of Satan really believe that, or is this statement intended to needle intelligent and rational people of faith?

I can go along with the temple’s ideas of revolting against tyranny, and free and rational inquiry, but the rest of their assertions sound like hocus-pocus. I have great respect for devout and sincere religion, but this falls right in line with the Flying Spaghetti Monster. These groups have the freedom in this country to celebrate their “religions” and I have the right to argue with them or laugh about it (or cry).

The mistake made by many atheists and agnostics is that they think a person can’t be intellectual and have faith in God. But humans were designed with a superior mind and a spirit enabling them to commune with God.  Why should we ignore half of our potential?

I am irritated by people who can’t intelligently talk about Christ with their own unique words and ideas, but I am also tired of the snobbery of people who think they are too smart to believe in anything supernatural. Kierkegaard and C.S. Lewis and Bonhoeffer and many other great scholars enjoyed the perfect marriage of  intellect and faith- knowledge tempered with godly wisdom, which is the best of both worlds.

By the way, I can’t help but wonder if the Satanic temple spokesman Lucien Greaves was born with his name or changed it to suit his “religion.”  It’s a cool name, but it is just so incredibly appropriate, as if it was designed for his precepts.

Like Olive Twist suits my purposes as a writer.
